Who makes an inexpensive fuel pressure gauge I can use to troubleshoot a problem on my 93 OMC 5.0 EFI?

My boat has a rough idle and today while warming it up to change the oil it suddenly died. Looking over the engine I noticed that the 20amp fuse for the fuel pump was tripped. I reset it and it started right up but shortly died again. I did notice an unusual noise coming from the high pressure fuel pump. It kind if squeals with the rough idle. However, a couple of hours after this I tried starting it again and it ran for a good 20min. rough idle and all without a stall. The high pressure fuel pump squealed initially but quited down after about a minute or two. The fuel is fresh with a full tank and treated with Stabil. I recently changed the fuel filter. It had the rough idle before that.

I did do the tests on the PCV valve as suggested in the manual and it passed. So I don't think it is that that is causeing the rough idle.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Re: fuel pressure gauge & help with problem

You need a low fuel pressure fuel pump. Some times it takes the fuel pump relay out with the bad low pressure fuel pump. New low pressure fuel pump replace fuse and fill the water fuel filter with fuel so the new pump doesnt run dry.

g day dmallan i used a ordenary engine comp gauge in desperation to check mine. thay are a dime a dozen over here. i just pulled the tire type valve out. and the rubber gromet off. its one of the push and hold type gauges.and if you want to be safe use some fuel hose to extend the gauge to out side of youre boat. or at least away from youre engine good luck. gregdorado
