Hello, I have a 1984 2.5 L OMC stringer. After running great today for about 40 minutes the boat lost power . I could only go slow otherwise it would backfire and stall. Ran real rich. I could smell the gas. Fuel pump was replaced in 2017. New plugs, points, rotor and cap in June 2018. Rebuilt carb in July 2018. New manifold July 2018. New fuel water separator a month ago. New coil July 2018. When this happened a couple of years ago I removed the cheap electronic ignition kit and reinstalled the points and replaced the coil. Boat ran great until today. A side note . Two weeks ago by accident, I left the ignition turned on for the 1 hour drive back home from the boat launch. Could I have damaged the coil

No, you wouldnt damage the coil

You need to file and gap the points every spring, then verify dwell and set timing

If youre running rich, its fuel system

Check the clear tell tale hose for fuel. If tgere is fuel in it, your fuel pump failed

If not. Look at your carb

If the clear line going from fuel pump to carb is brown the 1st couple of inches coming from fuel pump, does that mean there was fuel in there? When I got home I removed the line and no fuel came out and I also ran the boat on muffs with line disconnected and no fuel came out. I don’t understand why it runs good for 40 minutes then acts up

The brown in the tygon tubing is just crud, and don't think your pump is leaking

Running real rich is sounding like the carb is flooding
