I have a 1999 mercury 150 hp efi outboard with a fuel flow problem. It was running about 2 weeks ago but has been setting since. I tried to start today but primer bulb would not fill up. I put a new bulb on but same thing. I removed the cowl and when I pumped the bulb I can hear air around the fuel pump. Any ideas?
Hi. You may have a compromised fuel line and pulling air somewhere.
Sorry for asking, but is the primer bulb going the right direction? Sure it is.
Other thing is, if she’s been ran out of fuel or has a fuel restriction somewhere…you might have her take a gulp of air, meaning you may need to bleed the fuel rail to expel it. There is a shrader valve there you could use to do this.
I wouldn’t lay too much attention to primer bulbs going hard or not, on an efi modern engine (in fact the most recent mercury engines actually suggest there shouldn’t even be one), the way a carb engine would.
Check your fuel line and bulb fittings at each end for any possible air draw. Best of luck
