Chrysler 6.6 H.P.outboard, model #601 S# 4073. symptoms: in nutral have full thorttle, in gear have half power. New plugs (2-ice), cleaned carb completly, checked fuel pump *** ., checked all fuel line ball check valves from tank to carb. for blockage, O.K. Next question, - could this be a "clutch" problem? - can a spring work 1/2 way because it's broken? <br />Additional symptoms: seems when in nutral, when advancing the throttle, there's a "pause" at mid range, then sudden acceleration to full throttle, does not follow "flow" from throttle arm. No load - full throttle/ under load - half speed, sounds like only one cyl. is answering, but changed plugs 2-ice, have spark on both. Figured slow on gas somewhere, or something between eng and prop (clutch?). This symptom happened quickly, not a slow down over a period of weeks or months. Figured it's not something wearing, more like a brakage or clog - sudden. Any ideas would be helpful, the engine is clamped on the vise in the garage, haven't been sailing for 2 weeks!
