Fuel Problems

I have a 1993 Crist Craft 322 Crowne. It has twin 454 with OMC King Cobras. Yesterday tghe starboard egine would not start, so I had a mechanic look at it. He tapped on the gas tank and thought it must be empty. I told him that this was impossible has 30 gallons was just put into the starboard side. There was no gas getting to the starboard engine but there was power to the fuel pump. He suggested putting fuel into the tank to see if it started.

I filled up the tank with 29 gallons of gas. I believe the tanks are 60 gallon tanks, so my first 30 gallons was still there. The engine started fine and ran all day without problem.

Why did the engine not get fuel at half tank and why did it work when it was at a full tank. Incendentally there was a complaint, I was not on the boat, off a gas smell in the cabin the night before, that quickly left when aired out. The mechanic did not notice any gas smell or signs of gas.

Any suggestions and repair tactics.

thanks in advance

Re: Fuel Problems

When you filled it the rest of the way did the pump click off? That is to ask, are you positive it is really full? Hopefully the previous day's gas load was not put into the wrong filler. If you have a water fill check that it didn't get a load of fuel.

Re: Fuel Problems

When the boat was filled up the second time, the guage (after filling) showed full for both tanks and gas came out of the overflow. The guage show 1/2 full on both tanks, prior to filling the second time
