went ahead and took off fuel pump. and it had a little rust on diaphrams and screws inside, not to bad thogh. i reused all parts, cleaned them all well put back together and still not tring to crank. still the only time it wants to try to crank and run is if i take out 3or4 spark plugs spray fuel in holes and reinstall plugs then it will run for a sec or 3. if you have been following my problems yes i have alreadt clean all carbs, checked all fuel lines for clogs. iam out of ideas and fusteraded.

The fuel pump has no role in starting the motor. You hand prime the carbs with the primer bulbs. After the motor is running, the fuel pump keeps the carbs full.

Does you choke or enrichener work? Do you have good spark and compression on all cylinders?

no chock does not work i have to hold it closed by hand while turning the key. all compression and sparking is great. i did how ever find a pin size hole in hose next to primer bulb, do you think it is sucking that much air through??

The pinhole in the fuel line will likely cause the fuel pump to suck air. Tape it up until you replace it.

I will guess that is an inline Merc. they need a heavy choke to start. I would start with fixing your choke.

yes in line 6 well i figured chock wasa smaller job, needed to get it running before i did anything else. but it needs heavy chocking, i will fix chock also.

chocking promblems

well if it ain't the fuel pump i am changing title to chocking promblems. how to check chock device to see if it is good. wire going to chock device is showing 11 or 12 ohms, but when i turn the key and press button it doesn't work. let resay that the ohm meter reads 12 when key is turned and button is pressed. but chock does not move. so besides buy new, what can i check for?? any ideas?

Jumper the choke solenoid with +12VDC from the starter solenoid, and see if it closes the choke plates or operates the enrichener (whichever you have). If it does, the choke switch is bad or doesn't get +12VDC power from the keyswitch or the choke wire is bad. if the solenoid doesn't operate, replace it.

it runs thank God it really runs!! ok but not peeing, but will worry with that i a sec, back to chock, umm the wire that goes to the chock device comes straight from main wiring harness, to chock device. this is going to sound stupid coming from a guy, but work with me!! it looks like a cylinder thing with a cone and small rod inside. and the part that moves to chock open and closed over carbs is a cylinder with a wire goint to chock plastic parts. inside chock cylinder is concaved to match the other part.

Choke solenoid is an electromagnet. When you apply voltage, it pulls the steel cylinder into it's cavity and pulls the choke plates over the carb throats. Inline six motors have only two choke plates.

ok that makes better since, i figured it made to be magnetic or something. i am glag you told me they olny had 2 chock plate covers i was trying to find that out, to see if i was missing the bottom one. or if someone else had rebuilt carb and just didn;t put it back on.
