Fuel pump boss on Gen V 454...??

According to my information the Gen V 454 didn't have a mechanical fuel pump boss. I have an engine Mercruiser ID #, "OD 517074" big block 454,that is supposed to be a 1991 model. This one has a mechanical fuel pump and fuel pump boss...<br /><br />I'm going to pull this engine this weekend, but in the mean time I'm ordering some parts. I'm a little confused about what I have.<br /><br />Supposed to be 1 piece rear main seal, non adjustable rockers, and no fuel pump boss if its a 1991 Gen V...which I guess it isn't because of the fuel pump. Can any one tell me what this is...

Thanks Don ...I'll try that...<br /><br /> My machinist said that the marine engines were a year or two behind sometimes. I guess he was right since GM's 1991 athru 1995 were Gen V's. Then Gen VI's came out in 1996..... That's very good for me if this a Mark IV..my parts will interchange.....makes my day.<br /><br />thanks again...Stan

That helped a lot Don...the engine is definitely a Mark IV, Whew...no worries on the block, I already have a good one.<br /><br />To bad Mercruiser doesn't give any real specs for engine builders...I've called them and they can't give any specifics. Now they will sell you a head for $695 or something, but they can't tell you a thing about it. Nice folks and try to help...one told me they just don't have that information available to them. Looks like they would have a way to get to it somehow doesn't it.<br /><br />Thankfully there are always guys like you that can give us enough clues to figure it out. You are always a lot of help.....and I do appreciate the help.<br /><br />Thanks again ...Stan <br /><br />P.S. <br />I was surprised to know that the 300 hp engine was only 8.0:1 compression...shows what I know about these marine mills.

The Mercruiser service manual will give you every spec you need and instructions on rebuilding an engine or outdrive. And they go by serial number also, not Mark ## something, that's GM.<br /><br /> http://www.mercurymarine.com/order_a_mercruiser_manual

Good morning Don...<br /><br /><br />Well, I must have not have looked hard enough. Of course the manuals I have are aftermarket.....The Mercruiser manual has GM part numbers ?
