fuel pump check valves

I have been having problems with fuel pumping to the carb on my 1972 9.8 110. I ordered a check valve kit that should be here this weekend. Can anyone out there tell me how you can tell if they go bad and could it totally cause the pump to fail?

Yes, they do go bad and if stuck completly open or shut they will cause the pump to not operate at all

Thanks, I bet that's why my pump doesnt work. I have virtually eliminated everything else it could possibly be. Will let you know the results.
