I have a 89 Mercury V6 150HP, 0C220883, purchased a Siera 18-7817 fuel pump kit....Yes, I screwed up the little nylon retainers. Just purchased a genuine Mercury kit...has differant retainers and check valve set up which I already researched and found out the old neoprene check valves are not used with the new kit. Problem is in the final assembly instruction diagram. The kit instructions shoe the two gaskets positioned directly against the center block of the pump while the 2 solid rubber diaphragms are postioned directly against the two end blocks (chamber plate and pump base) However my Mercury engine manual shows the opposite positioning; the two rubber diaphrams are positioned against the center block and the gaskets are against the two end blocks. I followed the instructions that came with the Mercury kit, however I have not "tightened" anything down yet. Because of the new check valve configuration should I use the proceedure in the kit instructions. Thanks for everyone's assistance.
