fuel pump diagram

Hey can someone help me out? I need a good exploded view of a fuel pump. The motor is a 1985 Johnson 8hp, model J8RCOB. I was inspecting mine and seem to have put it back together wrong, and my Clymer book isn't helping any. Thanks<br /><br />Mike

GRRRREAT!!! I got it back together, looks like some else had it a little messed up too, it might explain why I had a few issues with it running right last fall when I first took it out. Thanks man!!!

BTW where do you hail from Bubba? I saw Center Hill, isn't that kind up in east central Tenn? If so I bet that's some awesome stripe and smallmouth fishing.

Mike....just posted this on another thread...<br /><br />If you want to test the pump to make sure it's put together right, make sure all the screws are in the pump holes. Use nuts to secure the long ones so the four corners of the pump are tight. <br /><br />Try and blow back through the pump from the outlet nipple. If you can, the pump is not put together right. If you can draw air from the pump through the outlet nipple but can't blow back through the pump, then it should be put together right.<br /><br />Hope this helps a might.

Tastes funny too.....I believe she's right, I can't blow back through, and it makes a little "honk" when I lightly draw air through. Whatever nimrod that rebuilt the pump previously had one of the gaskets rotated in the wrong spot, more precisely #5 on the picture above. I didn't know that a fuel pump worked off of engine vacuum and compression until I got a manual. It's amazing what you can learn in an hour's worth of reading.

mikey I hail from warren county here in middle tenn..Center hill is north of me but I live about 15 miles from the head waters of center hill

That's cool not to get off topic but I've got some of the best fishing around here when it comes to variety! I can catch smallmouths in the spring and fall, largemouths most the year, crappie, tons of bream and tons of catfish, as well as sauger when it's freezing cold outside. You wouldn't happen to have an exploded view of fuel pump for 1977 Evinrude V-4 85hp also? I've been doing some maintenance on it when I got time and the carb and fuel pump are next on the list. And again thanks for the picture it was a great help<br /><br />Mike

I don't think there is a rebuild kit for these. My orignal shop manuel recomends replaceing the whole thing.<br /><br />

oh okay it looks more simple than the 8hp fuel pump. I wish I had a better manual than I have now. it doesn't go into enough details
