Howdy all,
I was in the process of inspecting/replacing all of my filters for the upcoming season and had never had the filter changed in my fuel pump. Engine is a 1984 mercruiser 120 and it has the carter low volume pump. Well I took the bowl off of the top of the pump, and there is no filter! I assume there was one because of pics in the mercruiser manual show a filter with a spring. The question is how important is this filter? I have the filter going into the carb from the fuel line and then a water/fuel separator as it comes out of the gas tank. I've been able to find the filters online, but none have the spring. If I do replace the filter is the spring important? And if I leave it alone, is there the potential for problems later. Thanks!
