Fuel Pump for My Borrowed Boat

Howdy!

New guy here. I did search first and did not find and answer to this question.

Long story short, a friend's dad has a Four Winns 160 Freedom that's been sitting for a couple of years. I have a house near a lake and one thing led to another and I'm going to use their boat and help get it moving again. Replaced the battery, put fresh fuel in, but it wouldn't start. I found no gas getting to the carb, so I checked the fuel pump and the diaphragm seems like garbage.

How do I find out exactly what pump to buy? It's a Carter, so I'm guessing a replacement. Looking for the make and model that is a direct fit... also I'd prefer one prebuilt with the filter installed.

Any help in that direction is appreciated!

Best,

JJ

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... You use the name of the manufacturer of the marine motor, 'n their serial number to find parts for the motor,......

If it doesn't have a canister type fuel filter, I suggest you add one, they do a much better job, 'n will stop any water in the fuel,.....

Thanks for responding! The boat is an 87' Four Winns 160, the motor has a sticker that says OMC drive systems on it, with the MOD No. 302amrmed, MOD No 985684. The pump has the fuel filter on top of the pump.

Any info. to help me track this down would be helpful!

Thanks again!

I have come across this problem before, and it appears that the original pump used by OMC is no longer available, but Mercruiser used a similar pump on their version of the 3.0 4 cyl, I would get the Merc version bear in mind you may have to rework the fuel line if the fittings are in a different place. That would be the best solution.

If the pump has a Carter # on it, go to this site and plug it in and see what comes up....
