Volvo penta 5.0gipbycce. Boat has been sitting for more than a decade. I'll spare the details of what I've done. Tried to start it. Turned the ignition on and could hear the fuel pump. Cycled several times but wouldn't start. I took the flame arrestor off and looked down the throttle body and it was bone dry. Long story short I couldn't get it started. I finally poured some gas down the throttle body. It sputtered. Poured some more... almost. Finally some more and she fired up! Hallelujah! I ran it for almost 5 minutes. Stop and start. Sounded great. I don't know however if it is running off the fuel I poured in it or if the high pressure fuel pump started working.
I guess my question is... how do i isolate the high pressure fuel pump to test it. I put a meter to it and have voltage. I can't say with certainty that it comes on. I here a pump run when I turn the key, but I think it is the low pressure pump. If it is the pump, how can I be certain it is a faulty pump? Can the oil pressure sensor switch be responsible for the fuel pump not turning on? I am suspect of the switch since it has sat so long. Any other things I can troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance.
