The motor is a 1978 35hp and the Sierra part munber listed is 18-7820 but this is the wrong kit. Gaskets and diaphragm are all too small. The OMC number for the pump is 398338 and I can't find a kit for it. Not here at iboats or through NAPA's Sierra numbers.

Can anyone tell me where to find one or is this pump not rebuildable?

A 1978 35hp is supposed to have a 385781 fuel pump on it, and 18-7820 would be the correct kit for that one. Looks like somebody has changed the pump, doesn't it?

398338 crosses to Sierra / iboats 18-7352. Yep, 18-7820 would be the wrong kit for that one. It probably takes a 18-7821 or 18-7822. not much help, I know, but that's the best I have to offer.

Re: Fuel pump kit 35hp

Thanks,

Was able to get a hold of the boat guru at a nearby shop, think he's been around sense they started making Johnsons, took awhile as he's not very fast anymore but he thinks he's found the right one. Seem that pump supercedes 3 or 4 then is superceded by 3 more.

Will find out tomorrow.

Re: Fuel pump kit 35hp

1st I want to thank **** at Dicks Marine Service in Fox Lake Illinois.

He was able to identify this pump and come up with a repair kit for it. Yes this was a replacement pump for this motor. Looks like there are 6 or 7 different replacement numbers available for this motor.

Bad news, rebuild didn't help. Seem the reed valves inside the pump are not holding as I tested it per the rebuild directions and it will not hold pressure on either side. Replaced the pump with another I had and the problem was cured.
