i got more questions than answers. for trisonic listed below. i think you boat mechs and the coast guard won't like my clamped on, rubber fuel line on the pressure side. so question is. how can i tell which of the three(in looking at doughrussell part's diagram, and at the merc dealers) oem fuel lines is right for my application? i got no engine serial #. have a remanufatcured truck shortblock. went to the dealer today and they were less than helpfull. guess i didn't buy the boat there. but that's not the issue. the fuel lines are. thinking i got a accident waiting to happen.

you can also make your own IF you double flare the ends using steel brake line hose.

thanks guys. guess i thought i wanted to go with the metal line from the fuel pump to carb. now after looking at the above website, i am thinking that i can get away with uscg approved A1 fuel line with hose clamps on a barbed fitting. i'm still haveing a problem finding the oem parts. since i just have a non approved fuel line now, and the block's been changed. i don't see any of the metal fuel line supports either. :( . <br />also thought i saw a thread a long time ago with a pic of a fuel hose from pump to carb on someone else's 165. thought i read that the boat mechs here were unhappy with that arangement. still working on this, want to get it right for the uscg(and me too). thanks for the rules Destin... looks pretty challangeing to make my own doc. but aint leaveing any option out just yet....

Not hard at all to make your own out of steel brake line. By the time you buy the aproved fuel line and necessary fitting and hardware, you can have steel with no vibration. Buy the line to length and it will already have the male fittings already on it, just bend to suit. Or you can get the raw line and cut your self. You will however need a tubing bender and or a DOUBLE flare tool. both of which can be rented from some of the larger national auto parts chains for cheap.

double flare tools are very cheap and easy to use.<br />flexable metal line is also easy to come by.

Why don't you just go to Home Depot, but 10 feet of 3/8 or what ever copper tubing, and a flare kit? Couple (get spares) fittings and you are set.

I realize that copper is easier to work with, but if you do it will cause problems down the line. Copper "work hardens" and is subject to cracks and fractures - not something you want in the engine compartment.

I don't want anyone to get upset. The mention of COPPER fuel line is another example of "BACKYARD HACK" maintenance. It's always easier to use copper than steel, is it safe? I know some factory stock installations from years ago used copper fuel line. It still doesn't give a person justification to reinstall copper. Ofcourse anyone can rely on the old American standby,<br />"I didn't know".

i used steel brake line. seems to have worked well. wondering if i need to support the fuel line somewhere along the line though now. seems ridged enough but suppose it would be better supported. thanks folks....
