Is there any difference between a Marine and Automotive mechanical fuel pump?

Local marina doesn't have one in stock, but they look pretty basic and I'm not thinking there is any difference with a automotive one.

Can anyone confirm?

1988 350 Mercruiser engine.

Thanks for the help. Not trying to cheap out here or use substandard equipment, just in a time crunch to get back on the water.

Most mechanical fuel pumps used in a marine application use a nipple on the pump housing to direct fuel (through a clear hose) to the carburetor/flame arrestor when the diaphragm (in the pump) tears/breaks.

Yes,If the automotive pump fails it pours gas in the bilge......BOOM!!
Get a marine pump! Most Napa stores sell them.
or you can get one here on Iboats or ebasicpower.com

Re: fuel pump - Marine vs Automotive

thanks again.
Was able to find one about 1hr away. Nice day for a drive anyway. Now I just hope the install is as simple as it sounds. But since nothing in my life is simple, I'm sure I'll run into other troubles.
