Hello everyone!
Thought I would utilize the community and see if anyone can give me some insight so I don’t have to bring this into a shop.
I recently restored a flats boat and got this clean looking 35hp 1985 Evinrude to power this.
As I went to start the engine I noticed that this engine is missing a fuel pump and the fuel line has been routed without one. After talking with some buddies we figured they had an electric pump that was housed outside of the engine because we can’t figure out why the fuel pump would be missing. You can see there is an electric primer. The primer does click when you push the key in, indicating that it works fine.
When I tried starting her, I primed the bulb and the fuel ran through the line to the bottom of the carburetor and just wouldn’t start as if it wasn’t getting the fuel.
I used some starter spray lightly in the carb and it fired right up and then shut down immediately as if it only sparked because of the starting fluid.
It’s as if the carb isn’t actually taking in fuel to the engine running. Next step probably will be taking the carb out and inspecting this further. But I wanted to ask you guys as I have a moderate level of understanding of engines but not enough to call myself an expert.
Do you guys have any ideas or solutions that I am missing?
Thank you in advance for any advice. I want to get back on the water and enjoy the rest of this summer while I can.
