Ran one of two engines at slow speed, about 1500 rpm, and fuel pump stopped working after about 1/2 hour. After cool down, engine restarted and ran normal. When I have to run on one engine, should I do more rpms or less to cool the fuel pump better?
Checked and water flows in and water flows out. I was told that the recirculating fuel keeps getting hotter as it recirculates at slow speeds. So higher rpm might cause less recirculating and therefore less heat. Sound plausible?
If the system is working correctly heat build up shouldn’t be a problem.
And, running a twin engine boat on one engine only, causes that engine to lug. This is normally not a issue when running at or near idle but can lead to detonation if you start to advance the throttle for long periods of time.
Yes, use both engines whenever possible. But I thought an advantage of having two engines was being able to run on one when the other is OOC. So I had one engine OOC and was using the other when I had the fuel pump overheat and quit. Normally, if the engine with the power steering pump quits, you cannot steer. But I have modified my boat so either engine can power the steering ram.
Just a follow up. On mine the water flowed nicely thru the pump but it was blocked at the riser and could not get out. May want to just check that as well. Hope all is running well now
