Fuel pump problem

I have a 1996 evinrude 9.9hp 4 stroke. I believe i have a fuel pump problem. When i am trolling It sounds like my motor is running out of gas and dies. Then I figured out that if I run back there and squeeze the ball it will keep on going. The bulb and line are new so im going to rule out that. My question is do I need to buy a new fuel pump or can I just rebuild the one on there?

Sounds to me like it may be sucking air through the fuel line or where it plugs into the motor side plug in. and it could be like you said, the fuel pump, is it a vro pump? If so, it will have to be repleaced, No repair kit.
