Last weekend on the Mississippi River we participated in a local annual vintage boat show. Your thread about the , no reason fuel pump failure, has backed up a suspicion I have had for the past two years. My Mercury 1968 L6 160 was running great for about an hour and stopped running. (after checking all else) Long story short, the inline see through fuel filter just in front of the original Mercury fuel pump, had no gas in it. I disconnected the fuel line from the fuel tank to the inlet of the fuel filter and sucked gas back in the line. Engine started right up and ran the rest of the day. Back when it was called a vapor lock. All fuel lines and gas tanks are new and had fresh gas for this trip. After reading your threads the check valves are suspect. The diaphragm is not leaking but will probably get a rebuild kit and check it out this winter. Just saying, this happened one time last season also. After last seasons problem I now keep an outboard fuel tank fuel line with the pump up bulb on it in case the line drains back again for what ever reason.

Ayuh,.... This thread, is well over a year old, 'n yer not the Original poster,.... Threads are otherwise Dead after 90 days from the last post,...
So,....
I gave ya a thread of yer own,...

As for yer boat,.... That clear filter is illegal, 'n a safety violation accordin' to the Coast Guard rules,....
There should be nothin' but a CG approved fuel line 'tween the fuel pump, 'n carb,...

You are right Bondo. The filter is for test purposes to try to get this situation fixed. The fuel line is all CG approved. As it seems I am not the only one with this problem.
