Re: FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT IN A 205 SSE Chaparral
"rodbolt hit the nail on the head "
You could NEVER count the times we all wished boats came with a handy lil' trap door underneath!
T - I - T TIGHT engine bays, all with oil filters, starters and fuel pumps UNDER neath'. Life was sooooo much easier if I would have stuck with cars, it least I could jack them up.
ALL mechanics just want to SLAP the snot out of most engineers, what where they thinking other than attempting to justify their job position by designing such an awkward system for a boat engine.
Sorry for the short rant, I apologize.
If your particular craft does not have removable 'walls' or partitions forming the engine bay/dividing the engine bay from your seating area, then you may not have much choice but to pay him for the time to pull the engine.
Note: while it is out take advantage to clean the bilge, replace the bilge pump/float switch, engine starter, anything 'bottom side' that has aged, hopefully the additional expense will ward off future problems BEFORE they develop.
