I'm going to replace the diaphragm on a DT-40 Suzuki. I'm not real familiar with outboards. Are there any tips on doing this job? Sealants to use or not use? Cautions on initial starting? Priming cautions. It took a week to get the part I just want to make sure I don't foul up the job.

Thanks from a novice,
Jim

no sealants
use a magic marker and draw a match up stripe acrossed all the parts so reassembly is simple.
good kuck and keep posting

Re: fuel pump replacement tips

When I did mine on an 11 yr old Yam 225 (2 pumps), I found that even after removing the inlet and outlet fuel line clamps, the hoses were frozen onto their nipples. I felt if I pulled too hard, I would run the risk of ripping the hoses. So I took a tiny screwdriver and ran it around the inside of the pump end of the hose to break the seal up a bit. Then they pulled off. The rest of it is straightforward.
