Merc 5.0L MPI, serial # OWO18920
I've recently remedied a bad o-ring that was letting water into my gas tank. Pulled 2 gallons out of the gas tank and another 6 oz from the rail/fuel cooler end. My bogging problems weren't completely fixed, so I checked my fuel pressure today and it's 15-16 PSI at idle, rev, and under load at 2000 RPM. Not good........
LP fuel pump and fuel filter/water separator are both new within the last month.
Pulled some fuel out of the schrader valve (at the injector rail) and looked at it. Saw some really tiny little silvery shiny flecks, looked like metal. Put a magnet in it and they are NOT magnetic. Aluminum? Is the HP fuel pump made of aluminum?
Is my fuel pump shredding and putting out metal flecks?
Has anybody ever had a fuel pump shred on them?
What causes this?
I plan on putting in a new HP fuel pump, but I don't want it to shred too if there is something causing this.......
