Boat has been sitting in the back yard for about 5 to 6 months, still has about 15 gallons (87 octane) of fuel in it. It was originaly treated with Marine Stabil at the regular dosage at the time of fill up. I run the motor every several weeks on the hose. Going back out on the water soon, I was thinking should I put 15 gallons of 93 octane to help freashen up the fuel? 1999 Johnson 150 carb motor. Your input is appreciated.

Start it up and use it. Shouldn't need any snake oil to get fuel to last for 5-6 months. If there is room for more fuel then I would ad some more, but only because I don't put the boat in the water with less than a full tank.

No need to use 93 octane, now or ever. Higher octane does not make "old gas better" -- it just lightens your wallet. Besides -- six month old treated fuel is not "old fuel".

As everyone else has said, it's not a problem. All of my gas powered stuff (lawnmowers, generator, power washer, etc, etc.) as well as my boats go that long unused from time to time. Never had an issue.

I agree just use it and don't worry. I don't know about the "snake oil" gas treatment stuff either. After adding some to my small engines I misplaced the bottle and found it again a few years later. It smelled like rotten gas and was full of big clumps. Seemed odd that it would become what it's supposed to stop.

Stabil is 95% Naptha or Propanol depending on which version you get. Same stuff that is already in the additive package of any quality gasoline. If you leave it sit around for years it does the same thing that gas that sits around for years does
