When not in use for a few weeks, is it better to burn the fuel out of the carbs, or leave as is? (The motor is a 1984 Evinrude 70hp, if that matters.)

Re: fuel question

Run stabilizer in the gas bl....then you won't have to worry about it.

Re: fuel question

Leave the fuel in. Use a stabilizer like OBJ says. Running the carbs dry can cause rubber seals and gaskets to shrink, dry and crack resulting in leaks the next time its started. A 21 year old motor is probably best left wet. Especially if the carbs have not been rebuilt lately.

Don't forget to give the primer bulb a squeeze ever week or so so the gas in the carbs doesn't evaporate out through the overflow vent.

Re: fuel question

You cant "run the carbs dry". You can run the motor until there isnt enough fuel in the carbs for the motor to continue to run but there will still be some fuel in them. That small amount of fuel will varnish up quicker than a bowl full.

And on a non oil injected motor youre also cutting off the oil supply.
