got a problem with motor loosing fuel when wide open. 86 evinrude 225. just really wanted to know what the brass fitting is on the block that connects the pulse line to the fuel pump. is this a check valve or something.

Re: fuel question

in a 225 I can imagine that most of your fuel is going straight down the many carbs!

Re: fuel question

what do you mean, "loosing fuel"? leaking, using more than you think it should? running out of fuel, not getting enough to run wide open?

Re: fuel question

for some reason my carb bowls go dry when i run it over 4000rpms. i pulled a fuel pump off a motor that i know works fine and still the same. has all new lines on it. why am i not pumping fuel at full throttle?

Re: fuel question

Lots of reasons for lack of fuel flow. Start at the fuel tank. 1) clogged fuel pickup screen, 2) sticky anti siphon valve, 3) fuel line degradation, 4) check valves in primer bulb restricting fuel flow, 5) air leak in fuel lines, 6) water separating fuel filter needs changing, 7) fuel filter on the engine needs changing, 8) engine mechanical condition (low crankcase vacuum) at pulse line. There are some of the primary suspects.

Re: fuel question

a clogged vacuum check valve can do that, try removing it and blasting it with carb cleaner, it should only blow thru one way.
Clean the hose too,

...the manual advises just installing a new one,
it can be critical and its cheap anyway.

Re: fuel question

well i took that chek valve off this morning. if its supposed to be a one way than mine is bad because i can blow through it both ways
