I have a few fuel related questions. I have a 1990 mercury 90 horse outboard.

1. whenever I get done running the motor, and let it set say overnight, I should have fuel still left in the fuel filter shouldn't I? Reason I ask is, the fuel keeps running out of the filter, to where it's almost empty. I had rebuilt the fuel pump with new check valves, and diaphragms, and put a new primer bulb on it, and it still does it. I use a 6 gallon portable metal tank, could the barb that plugs into that be bad causing the problem? I'm not for sure how that works, so just wondering.

2. When the motor is running, how much fuel should be in the filter? my filter is located between the carb and the fuel pump, and it stays full when running, is this normal?

Thanks

Re: Fuel questions..

1. Does your bulb go empty as well?

2. The filter is between the tank and the bulb and is below the engine....this causes a free flow back into the tank after sitting for a while. The cause could be the connection leaking air at the tank causing the flow back and also if you leave your vent open on the tank this can cause loss of pressure back into the tank as well. I always close my vent when I'm done for the day. Just make sure you open that vent back up before you run the next day ;)

3. The filter should be at least close to full when running and at least half full when not.....
