Fuel Recommendations?

Just kinda curious what octane I should be running. 1972 Johnson Seahorse 65hp 3cyl. I currently and running 87 octane with an enzyme fuel treatment that is supposed to cure and prevent ethanol problems. Should I continue to run the 87 octane and add this fuel treatment, or should i be running a higher octane, and should I be adding a fuel treatment to that. Just curious before I fill up today and drop it in the water. Thanks

Re: Fuel Recommendations?

Personally I always get no ethanol gas for my boat and lawn mowers. It costs a little bit more, and can be hard to find, but it's still out there. The place I usually get it is a small privately owned station that also happens to be on my way to the lake. Some Sunoco stations still have no ethanol, and there is a Marathon station here that has a separate tank off to the side similar to places that sell kerosene with no ethanol 87 octane that is the same price as their premium with ethanol.

Re: Fuel Recommendations?

Keep on using the 87 octane and the additive, awake. There is nothing to be gained by using higher octane. Higher octane does NOT mean higher quality. It simply means it will allow high compression engines to run without detonation. Your engine is not a high compression engine.
