Fuel sender leaking

Hi guys, I changed out the sending unit in my gas tank last year, now when ever I fill the tank it leaks fuel from around the flange. The boat has a plastic tank with threaded inserts moulded into it. They are not stripped. I have tried several gasket cements like permatex etc. Anyone have any ideas as to what I could try next?
Thanks, Knottyd

Go to local auto store and ask for a sheet of cork gasket material. Then make a gasket to fit the sender

Most sealers will not hold up to gas, silly cone is real bad, but old school cork works fine

That sender should have a rubber gasket. If not you can buy one at a marine parts store. If it still leaks, there are gasket sealers that are made to hold up in the presence of gasoline. Autozone carries one, but I suggest you get the name of it on their web site, because the clerk may not know of it. I have used it and it does work.

Hi
cork or rubber but try to avoid sealant. It will almost certainly end up in your tank and cause issues later.
Hate to ask, but when you tightened it down did you do it evenly and using the usual method with such things. As in opposite screws a bit at a time to make sure you are tightening it down evenly ? Otherwise you won’t get a good seal or at least probably pinch the gasket at an edge. I’d have another go if not. Good luck.

Hi guys, I have tried several rubber gaskets but still seeped under flange. And yes I did Tighten the screws on opposite sides. The only thing I didn’t try was a cork gasket, I will try that today. Thanks.

OK, if the cork gasket doesn't seal it, I would recommend Permatex Permashield Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing and Sealant.

I was able to get it at Autozone and it sealed my fuel sender element and fuel pickup fitting.
