I need to replace my fuel sending unit in my 2002 VIP Deckliner (Mercruiser 4.3 I/O) and am getting all kinds of conflicting results on various sites. Some say the floating arm type is fine, some say WEMA only, etc. What's in there now is the floating arm, and it only reads from 33-140, and that's sporadic. Most of the time it just sits at 1/4 tank on the gauge and I had to manipulate the sender arm multiple times to get it to vary ohms, so I know it's shot. Once it started changing ohms the gauge did sweep so I know the gauge is good also. Question is, go with WEMA or another arm type or what? Also, what is the proper way to measure? It's 11-3/8 from top edge of tank to bottom of tank with a tape measure currently, and from what I'm reading the recommendation is 1" of gap from the end of the WEMA sender to the bottom of the tank. While I was in there checked and no trash or contamination and the pickup tube screen is clear (because I know that's going to be a recommendation!)

It's probably a 33-240 ohm gauge, so any sender will do. Arm, reed, WEMA, the choice is yours. Just be sure that the sender is marked as '33-240 ohm'.

I bought one which has a shaft and donut float. Only goes up and down no arm. You order length based on tank depth. Works flawlessly. Replaced the sonar model searay installed which never worked well. I got off amazon for $60
