Fuel shooting out of shrader valve when key pushed in.

I just boat a boat with a 1995 88 SPL. It ran great when testing it out one month ago.
I tried to start it for the first time yesterday with a fire and die results.
  • I removed the engine cover, when I push the key in, fuel comes out of the schrader valve. Is this correct?

  • After trying to start in neutral with throttle advanced I removed the air cover and found lots of gas pooled behind the cover

My question is two parts.
1.) Is it OK that fuel is coming out of the schrader valve when the key is pushed in
2.) Can someone break down the cold start process for this motor, should you goose the throttle, choke continously while cranking etc.

Thank you

The plastic valve you speak of is lever that should be positioned in line with the primer solenoid, this for normal push the key in while you crank the engine. As far as the leak goes , the red lever is cracked and causing your leak. New lever can be purchased at BRP, comes with instructions.

The schrader valve needs to be replaced. Did someone remove the cap and push it in? The primer injects extra fuel down the throat. My old 140 liked to have the throttle advanced and have a couple of pushes of the key to inject some fuel into the cylinders and then maybe a couple of more pushes after she fired.
