I've been under the impression for years that a fuel shutoff was required equipment for any boat with a below deck fuel tank. I've been reading some posts, however, that some folks get their boats directly from the factory with no shutoff.

Any opinions on the best place in the system for a fuel shutoff? Mine is located on the input of the fuel/water separator, which forced the hose fitting to be on a 90 degree bend. I've been thinking of moving it to the fuel tank feed tube, as both places are directly under inspection plates and I would have a straighter run to my fuel line. It would make things much cleaner. Any opinions on why I should NOT do this?

Thanks,
Dennis
