I own a 96 chaparral 25 signature with a 5.7 lx carb thunderbolt v engine and bravo 3 drive. The motor is running good, with occasional slow starting condition (might take 2 or 3 tries). However, there is a really bad smell of fuel from the exhaust. I verified there are no fuel leaks in engine compartment. Today I versifier that the electric choke is working correctly and not stuck closed. I also sprayed plenty of carb cleaner in it. It did get better but I still get then rich smell from exhaust. There is no noticeable smoke.
The boat is running on a full tank of fuel that is at least 1 year old. I just bought boat so I'm not sure if fuel was stabilized. Could stale gas be the culprit?
What should i try next? Seafoam?
