none of us brought a computer so i'm posting this on my phone...so I really can't really look anything up in less than three hours ;-)

so this morning we were out and it was running great, then slowly it stopped wanting to take throttle. u give it gas and it bogs down. so I'm thinking its not a carb probem but a pick up tube, my fuel filter was awfully dirty, cleaned it out though.

so, sorry for the long post, but I wanna get back out on the water!!! what do you guys think??

You can't "Clean" a fuel filter element, you replace it.

Yes, you can pull the pickup tube and clean it, may also be a plugged antisiphon valve in the top of the pickup.

WOW!!!! thank you thank you thank you for such a fast reply.

haha, and in my defence, as far as the fuel filter goes, I did it on the water, not a permanent thing.

what else can I check you think? should I check the carb float or anything (which is new by the way)?

You can back flow the fuel filter if you have a container to put the gas into safely. Turn the fuel filter backwards and run just a little fuel through it in an emergency. You must be VERY careful when doing this on the water as flames and boats do not mix.

This fix is temporary.

DO NOT run without a fuel filter. This will either clog the carbs fuel filter or will clog passages in the carb.

I just pulled the pickup tube on the lawnmower last week. Clogged up. Let us know what you find.

Good Luck.

if it only happens below half a tank, check out your pickup tube for pin holes or that may be a join point, when you get home.

that sounds right to me. i also wonder how the elevations are set up, does half tank put the fuel level at the fuel pump level.

i carry a toolbox onboard. it always has a new fuel pump filter and a couple of carb filters. plus plugs, distr rotor, some fuel line, clamps, zip ties, sterndrive drain plugs & seals, etc. when on vacation, i keep a complete raw water fuel pump kit onboard, impeller, upper housing, base. with the tools and a few hours, we can be back on the lake. without the parts, we're done.

Yes, that is the anti-syphon valve.

It's called old boats. Things get old, corroded, worn. It's constant work till you fix and/or replace everything.

Don's right. I prefer working on boats every few months as opposed to paying on them every month myself. You generally don't worry to much if you hit the dock or trailer a littler harder than you should of with a 1988 as opposed to a 2008. Old boats and cars just drive better.
