fuel starvation problem/priming bulb spongie

I have a mid 70's Mercury 1500 (150h.p.) and it runs great for over an hour, but then it has a fuel starvation problem. It begins by losing rpm's sporatically. down then back up, down then up, but eventually dies. will start back up immediately and idle fine. when you give it gas though, it dies. I've got a brand new tank, fuel line, and vent hose. Any ideas???

Have you checked the fuel pump. Diaphram may be shot

Check the compression first. The fuel pump uses compression to operate. The fuel pump, of course, might still need rebuilding, or you may have trash in the carbs. But lack of compression will cause this.

thanks for the reply, and no I haven't done anything to the fuel pump. I haven't even been able to find out what year my motor is. how do I go about getting the right diaphram? do they sell it as a kit, with gaskets and such? my serial # is 3913808

could it be a compression problen, when it starts good, runs great for over an hour before the problem begins?
