Fuel Starvation?

Hello all
I have a 91 evinrude v4 90hp, with compression @ 150 on all 4. The motor runs almost perect except for the fact it will not go past 4700 rpm's. I have decarbed it once and that really didn't do much for it but I have noticed when I push the choke in my engine comes to life like it should. I'm leaning towards a bad fuel line which I'm hoping to pick one up here this week or a clogged filter. The man previous to owning the boat said it had an inline fuel filter, i don't know exactly where that is I'm presuming in the fuel line somewhere?
Any insight or suggestions would be great

Re: Fuel Starvation?

You have fuel starvation. Maybe on all cylinders but more likely on one or two.

Continued running of the engine in this condition could cause serious damage.

Instead of choking it to get the extra rpm, try squirting some premix into the carbs, one at a time. If it picks up on only one carb you have a gummed carb.

A Service Manual and kits for the carbs would be a lot cheaper than taking it to a shop, and a lot quicker, too.

Good luck. :)

Make sure you are using a fuel line of at least 3/8" in diameter.

Also make sure your fuel tank is properly vented.

6degree....I think I'd be leaning toward a carb overhaul if the suggestions in the previous posts don't do any good. Maybe a good idea to ask the previous owner when the carbs were last serviced.
