Fuel system cleaners, do thet work, are they safe.
Good morning gentlle men, well it is morning here in South Africa.Last evening,John, a fisherman friend and I had just finished assembling the carburettors on a 55 Yamaha two stroke ,John commented on the amount of gunk we found in the carburettors, probably the motor was not run dry after it's last outing, then the subject of fuel treatments came up,here in south africa WYNNS oil is very well represented, one of the products they offer is a fuel system cleaner, by then a few more boaters had joined in the bench boating, questions were fast and furious, about what effects this product would have on a boat motor, concencous was reached on this theory. Mix the fuel system conditioner with the petrol first<br />and then mix the combination of petrol and fuel system conditioner with the correct ratio of two stroke oil and the run the motor as per usual. Has anybody on this forum done this or something simillar, and does this help to keep the carburettors clean,I have my doubts, surely it is the two stroke oil that remains behind in the carburettor bowl after the petrol has evaporated that causes the gunk ,so you would still have to run the carburettors dry,Kind Regards William Wright.
