I got an 1954 5.5 hp johnson from my dad. It's without a fuel tank and line. He said something about it being a pressured tank. Does anyone know anything about this and where I might find a tank and fuel line or if I can somehow use a different system?

Give Terry at American Outboard Motors a call on the tank (www.americanoutboard.com), he deals with alot of the older stuff. I can tell you right now, IF you can find a good pressurized tank, it won't be cheap. If your engine's block has the mounting bosses, it can be converted to use a fuel pump with a single line tank, like the newer ones use.

-John

Hello.
Go to johnson outboard on e-bay and just go over the entire list. There usually are a few being auctioned. Before bidding check out the sellers history. You can count on a good one costing you somewhere around a hundred dollars.
By the way,is vrabalais just a nick name or are you into french medieval poetry?
Good luck.

vrabalais
There are pumps available that don't require mounting for the crankcase pulse line. They will allow you to use the pulse line going to the original tank. Go to the local marine shop and ask them to match one up for you.

If you choose to buy an old pressure tank, carefully inspect the bottom for rusting through (pinholes)
