Re: fuel tank leaking

Is there access thru the floor is there a hatch the size of the tank that lifts up the tank itself for aluminum is around 10 a gallon to have made but if someone has to cut the floor and remove it all including the unknown stuff it can be very costly. I just did.mine and got lucky more Info or a pic would help.

Re: fuel tank leaking

Is the tank aluminum or plastic, I prefer aluminum tanks myself but plastic might be cheaper, but it's easier to properly secure an aluminum tank.....

Re: fuel tank leaking

Have it replaced with a plastic tank and you won't have to worry about leaks again.

Boatfun 3104,did you get this project done this summer? I have same boat Bayliner 2260 Fisherman.I plan on cutting deck 2' x 5',I will bevel cut so that slab will go back in place like a keystone. There seem to be fiberglass straps holding tank in place. I hope to rotate tank from stbd side up through cut out. Did you have to cut any of the bulkhead on the portside berth longitudanally to facilitate said rotation...Any an all imput greatly appreciated!

Re: fuel tank leaking

I am anxious to read these answers. My Aluminum tank is leaking. Its in a cabin cruiser but the tank is too big to come out through the door or the engine compartment hatch even with the engine out.
How safe is it to cut an Aluminum tank in half? Once out of the way I can install a smaller tank.

I don't know if aluminium tank could be cut, without creating sparks and subsequent BOOOM.I'm sure these things have been done before... how though,I don't know.

There are many ways to skin a 'cat...we just need input from someone who has wielded the knife before.

tin snips don't make sparks.... better yet, an air nibbler... honestly I've never seen aluminum make a spark from anything BUT electric tools DO.
