fuel tank mounting

I am mounting (or attempting) a new below deck alum. fuel tank from scratch. This has been a total restoration job from stringers to transom. I was not present when the original fuel tank mounting was dismantled, so I don't have anything to start from. It's a rectangular tank with a flat bottom, so I assume I will need some type of deck to sit it on. But what do I mount the deck to? Can it just lay in the bottom of the bilge or should it be attached to the inside stringer? thanks in advance for any ideas

Re: fuel tank mounting

alittle mohogany or doug fir wood cross beams & plywood on top all epoxied coated & epoxied in place will make a good mount.. that'll last pretnear forever..
than nylon strap the heck out of the tank down to the mount...

never just lay a tank in a hull loose.. must make a nice FLAT mountin' base..

NEVER EVER EVER 'foam-in' a tank.. causes much condensation..

You got some good advice here already. 2 things I'll add: First make sure you place some rubber cushioning any where the tank touches the boat's structure to reduce wear points and make sure you ground the tank to the fill inlet.
