I am going to remove the tank from my boat (see signature for boat details). It is 94 gallons capacity, now empty.

I have read through the various posts here regarding fuel tank removal and the related procedures.

I have read in a couple of posts about "filling the tank with water" ???? Of course there is nothing more than that explained. . . .

Other posts do not mention filling the tank with anything . . .

Question:
So, I'm wondering about the purpose of filling the tank with water ? (fume dissipation ???) Of course, I assume if the tank were filled with water, it would need to be drained at some point prior to removal (750 lbs of water !!!)

My concern is safety, so I'm just wondering about related procedures.

Ayuh,.... I've never worried 'bout any safety issues pullin' an empty tank out...
Donno why you'd fill it with Water either...
For weldin', Maybe, but there's better alternatives for that....

It looks like the hatch lip is in yer way,....
Will the tank tip enough to come out, or are ya cuttin' glass to get it out,..??
Why ya takin' it out,..??

If it's Holed,...
Scrap it, 'n have a Look here for a plastic replacement....

Re: Fuel Tank Removal Question

Yup, perhaps if you were gonna weld it, you'd want to flush and fill it with water . . . otherwise - Boooomm . . .

The deck hatch is 'supposed' to allow removal of the tank. It will probably be close.
