I thought that I had just about solved all of my boating problems, only to find that My fuel tank is now leaking.

Has anyone out there in boating land ever replaced the fuel tank in a Bayliner Sierra 2550 I am just about to put the engine back in and it looks like it would be much easier with the engine out

Re: Fuel Tank Replacement

Lots of folks here have replaced fuel tanks. You'd have better response with a broader question.

Picture are always a crowd pleaser!

Good luck

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Not familiar with your hull,...
But,...
Some tanks can be swapped with the motor out,...
And,...
Some tanks Still require deck cuttin' to swap...

Re: Fuel Tank Replacement

Replaced my tank with a new one. The used boat I had purchased had 'sat' for 5 years or so....after lots of discussion with guys here and local radiator shops I reached the conclusion that not to replace it was just asking for trouble and frustration.....cheap in the long run....Best decision ever. I took lots of pictures, made up a template before removing the old one...just replaced it! In my opinion it's the only way to go if you're keeping the boat.

If it looks easier to do now that the engines are out, do it now.:)

There should be a data plate on the tank near the sending unit. It will have the name of the manufacturer and model # if you are looking for an exact replacement.

Re: Fuel Tank Replacement

Thanks for all the input guys, I had to get the saw out in the end but it was not too bad. I ended up cutting the floor out of the bedroom and yanked it out.

It was a lot bigger than I thought(105 gallons) the book said that it was 85 gallons, but it was a good job that I got it out because it was ROTTEN with a capital R. I was lucky that I spotted the slight leak when I had the engine out.

Thanks again.
