Fuel Tank

I have a 1991 invader, and when I pulled the carpet up, I noticed the wood over the tank was separate from the other deck. It looks like someone tried to replace it. My question is, is the deck all one piece? Is the fuel tank enclosed under the deck, with just the service hole and cap on it, or is it suppose to be a hatch type incase the fuel tank ever needs replaced without having to cut the entire floor open?

Re: Fuel Tank

Some manufacturers do that as a matter of routine. Many have fiberglass or gelcoat over the sole on either side, but a piece of painted wood over the tank, attached with screws or staples.

Re: Fuel Tank

Looks like a previous fix job to me. The upper right corner – in the picture – shows where the circular saw ran out a little. This and the fact that there is no glass on top of this hatch make me doubt that it is a factory job. A factory – I hope – will not do it this way and run circular saw on the deck. Most likely they will have all the patterns pre-cut for faster installation. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Fuel Tank

I would glass over it. Changing a fuel tank is not a common job that one would do every day. If/when you need to change the tank, you know where to cut the glass. Leave a small hatch for easy access to fittings.
