I have a hole in my permanent fuel tank and was wondering if I could just use a gas can type and bypass the fuel tank altogether...will it pass the coast guard inspection also...?
I recently bought a boat and found there is a hole in the fuel tank...it's an open bow and the tank is permanent...can I use a gas can type tank instead and still pass ny inspection to register...it's a 1981 barretta 3.8L inboard 18ft...?
Welcome aboard. Your two threads have been combined.
NY doesn't inspect boats except to validate the HIN for registering and that's a maybe. Call or visit whoever does boat registration. You could look at the state requirements on their website.
If you drain and clean out the permanent tank, you can leave it in the bilge unused and use another fuel tank. Make sure the new fuel tank is USCG approved.
