Fuel tanks

I am going to buy a 3 gallon gas tank for my 61 evinrude 5.5, as my other motor requires a different fuel mix (50-1) and this one requires 24-1. My question is this...my motor only has a single hose, with a splice connector in it. I see tanks for Yamaha, Evinrude etc. but also a lot of generic tanks. Would a generic tank be OK as long as it meets boating regulations, or is there a difference? Mine does not require a pressurized tank.

Re: Fuel tanks

Yes it would be fine. I have a Moeller one and it seems much sturdier than the Attwood.

Re: Fuel tanks

Thanks! I was just a bit confused since I am still new to this stuff. I notice some tanks had "manual" vent while some mentioned "automatic" venting....and there seems to be a WIDE difference in tank prices on 3 gallon tanks. I see tanks anywhere from 18 to 69 dollars, makes no sense.

You can buy the correct OMC connector here at iboats, at Wallyworld, Academy Sports, etc.

Most of the aftermarket tanks these days are red plastic. I have a pair of them (12 gallon) that have been in use for over ten years and they are still fine. They were my primary tanks at one point, but are now used as aux tanks and are placed in the front of my boat to supplement my permanent tanks, as needed. About the only issue that I have had with them, is that they have both faded on top - the deep red color is now more white than red.

BTW, when you get the set up on the Erude 5.5hp all finished, take a couple of pics and post them!
