Fuel Vent - Attwood Flush-Mount 66032

I need to replace my fuel vent (might as well replace all the vents at the same time) and was looking at the Attwood 66032 on another boat. Flush mount seems much nicer than the Perko I was considering.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks

+1 those flush mounts are much nicer, easier to clean the screens, and expose less materials to dock damage. The cap versions tend to get screens popping out and can get knocked askew.

You may need to check your vent hose diameter compatibility to the flush version, if I recall the latter was slightly larger size. It is also a good time to make sure the vent hose is either curved upwards before heading down into the lower tank/bilge area, or looped, either will help prevent splash water from entering into the system.

Thank you. I checked the diameter and they're 5/8". Good reminder on the upsidedown P-Trap.

It seems like an easy decision, but wanted to check here first.

Are you able to access the inner hull and gunwale? In my case that was the biggest PITA, plus there was barely enough room to get the flush mount to cleanly seat onto the outer hull without protruding up into the gunwale joint as it is obviously a larger diameter than the old cap style.

not easily, but yes I can reach all the holes.

I think I'm switching to the 1674 Flush-Mount because it has the P-Trap built in. Can't tell for sure but it seems to use a much smaller hole size too.

I have that P-trap style on my boat and it works well, I have no loop in the vent line, it's downward all the way to the tank. The only thing I don't like about the fitting is it sticks out about an inch from the hull. I stepped into the bow once and the vent was right over the dock's edge,,, snap, the cover and end was gone... (The fitting was still attached to the hull and P-trap intact, but the spray cover was sheared off.) I replaced the vent with the same thing, but also bought bigger bumpers to hold the boat further away from the dock.

Do you have the flush-mount? Mine had the same P-trap design but, like yours I think, it had vents that stuck out and were knocked off. The one I'm looking at now (1674) will be flush just like the 66032 so hopefully no problems again.

What about the fuel cap that has the vent inside the filler neck? I've been thinking about changing to this type because my vent burps fuel on the side of the boat when filling up. Perko Vented Gas Fill - iboats

Thanks but I think I'll stick with separate vents since I need to replace the fresh water and holding tank vents too. Might as well go for a nice even number - 3.

... Nope

I should have looked closer at the 1674 when I replaced mine as I didn't realize it only stuck out 1/4", instead of sticking out 1" like the 1670. (Guess I'll get the 1674 when I knock off the 1670, again....)

Don't worry Dan, I'm sure it won't be long ;) Kidding of course but at least you know how to fix it.

I ordered the 1674 (weren't in stock locally) and hopefully I'll get them installed this weekend. Oh, that 1/4" height of the 1674 is kind of deceiving since it's the peak height and the sides are contoured.

LOL, no kidding (just my luck....)

The 1674 looks a LOT more robust with the (I assume) metal collar and a dock strike would most likely just glance off it.

LOL, no definitely kidding.

I read that the outside (cap) of the 1674 is stainless and the rest is plastic. That's another thing I didn't like about the Perko, it's stout, stands out about 1/4" (at the sides) and has a metal pipe so if (when) it gets hit it could do some damage.
