Fuel/Water Questions

Three questions:
1. If you discover a small amount of water in the separator filter mid-season, can you simply dump the cartridge and re-use it or does it need to be replaced? Why?
2. Is there a recommemded "additive" to pour into the fuel tank to allow residual water to be pulled thru without damaging the engine.
3. Does the rule of filling the gas tank before storage work to keep condensation moisture out or is there a better way?
I appreciate the site and the help...

Re: Fuel/Water Questions

#1 No. Put a new cartridge on. Old one may never dry out.

#2 You do not need additives, if you have a separator. Water will be pulled through anyway.

#3 Yes. it does work by not allowing large amounts of condensation to collecet in the tank during storage.

Re: Fuel/Water Questions

Thanks, Rick.
Just don't understand how the separator filters actually work. I assumed that the filter pleats just "filtered" stuff but are they also expected to wick up the water too and hence get "overloaded"?
When I had water problems last year, if I dumped the filter into a clear jar it was easy to see the water settle to the bottom. Figuring that I had just cleared the excess water I simply rescrewed the filter and went on my ignorant way.
Mistake, huh?
