I currently have a Fuel filter housing with the numbers 89876 stamped on it. A few questions;

A) Is this just a filter housing?
B) Can I just get a water separator filter and put on this or do I need an entire kit to replace it?

I just got the boat so not sure if it was added or factory. I don't see a brand, just that number. When I google it, I get a fuel filter base. Is the water separation mechanics in the filter or the base? I'll get some pictures of it tonight.

Re: Fuel/Water Separator Filter or?

87 Didn't have an engine mounted water separating fuel filter. So it's not OEM Mercruiser.
There is a bunch of companies making aftermarket water separating fuel filter kits that will do the same thing, but it's going to be next to impossible to figure out which one you have by just a part number.

Like Bondo said, take the filter to a marine shop, or maybe NAPA, they sell the Sierra brand filters and match up the threads, there is only about a dozen different ones, but I would sure try a Mercruiser first.

"Is the water separation mechanics in the filter or the base"

Mostly in the filter, said mostly because it is the orientation of the filter (base up, filter down) to the vacuum side of the base that does most of the separating.

How does the old saying go .... a picture is worth a million words? I gave the filter a good wipe down and walla. Thanks for the advice, got one on order!
