I am trying to replace this however i can't seem to get it off. Don't know how long this one has been on, but i bought the 1992 boat last year. Anyone have instructions on removal of old and install of new? I thought it would be easier than this!!

Thanks,
Brent

Is it a metal cannister - basically looks like an oil filter? If so, just use an appropriate oil filter wrench.

If it ain't been changed in a while, might be a real pain to get off. If the oil filter wrench don't work....use a strap wrench. Failing that.....I have put a screwdriver through them to get them off......might want to disconnect the inlet fuel line if you have to go this far. Some absorbant pads under it will help soak up the leakey fuel.......don't ya' just hate when this happens!!!!!

The screwdriver thing is a good idea, all else fails. Made me think of another that I've resorted to in the past - a B.F. pipe wrench, or a "helper" (big extension handle made from a pipe) on any of the above.

You might have a good challenge here.Best advice I have is a good grip and steady pressure.Brute force is not the first answer.

Just use the oil filter wrench, apply pressure. When the canister starts to collapse, back off a bit,but hold the pressure. Usually in ten seconds or so it turns, and you can get a fresh grip on it again. And pull some more.

DHP

one trick that works well is to use 2 oil filter wrenches on the filter and postion the handles 180 degrees apart. Use both hands on the wrench handles and you will have a lot of leverage to break those rusted cannisters free.
