fuel/water separator position

Installing a new Nissan fuel/water separator on my 90hp Johnson. Question is can I install between the built in fuel tank and the primer bulb or does it have to be after the primer bulb.

between tank and bulb is best.

Should be after the tank and before the bulb in the most stable position possible; the water separating function works on gravity.
